RMC Ltd is pleased to note that the QuaysLink bus service introduced last year to connect the MediaCityUK and Salford Quays developments with the wider transport network has proved to be so successful that it is to be absorbed into the Stagecoach Manchester commercial route network.
This represents the natural culmination of work orginally carried out by Roy McDonald which identified the potential for the high frequency service between Salford Crescent, Salford Shopping City and Salford Quays.
The press release issued by TfGM highlights that more than 475,000 passengers were carried on the service in its first year.
This has encouraged Stagecoach Manchester to incorporate the service within a revision to their commercial route 50 between Manchester and East Didsbury from 2nd September 2012.
This is an excellent example of how pump-priming a new, high-profile service with public funding can lead to a commercial success.
